EU Deforestation Regulation – A simple guide for packaging customers
What is EUDR?
The EU Deforestation Regulation aims to prevent products linked to deforestation from being sold in or exported from the EU. It covers certain products made from wood, including paper, cardboard and wooden packaging.
Does EUDR affect my business?
- Great Britain: Packaging imported into and used solely in Great Britain is not directly subject to EUDR.
- EU and Northern Ireland: Certain paper, cardboard and wooden packaging products may be subject to EUDR requirements.
- Packaging used to protect goods: Packaging used exclusively to support, protect or carry another product is generally exempt.
- Recycled materials: Products made entirely from qualifying recycled materials are generally exempt.
When does it apply?
The current implementation dates are 30 December 2026 for most medium and large businesses and 30 June 2027 for most micro and small businesses.
